Why Letting Go is SO Important

It’s amazing how much things we accumulate in our lives not realizing how it will affect us in our home and in our minds. We are conditioned to do certain things in life to feel like we need to have more in order to be happy and to live better, like having a house, car, and all the things you think you would need to fill them up.
Of course we need shelter over our heads and transportation to get from place to place, but when did we ever know when to stop filling up our homes with more things? Consumerism has made us fall victim to working hard to buy more and it’s a cycle that has been winning.
When I first discovered minimalism, it was because I had experienced a job loss that forced me to re-discover myself and figure out what was next. I started to do freelance work from home and it was hard to focus because my home and the things surrounding me were distracting. I was constantly finding myself tidying the home and trying to de-clutter and let go of things, instead of working. I decided to research on how to live with less and then discovered minimalism and it felt just the way I wanted to live...with less things, more experiences and to live with purpose. I was so excited to start my journey into living like a minimalist, and when I started to let go of what was no longer serving me or bringing me joy, it felt so good. I had read “The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up” by Marie Kondo and then I did the KonMari Method, and that was when my life really transformed, because it worked and it opened my eyes to a new way to live...to live for what gives me joy and to have gratitude.
When I had completed my tidying festival following the KonMari Method, my house was finally simplified and in order, containing only the things that sparked joy for me. I no longer wasted my time tidying or de-cluttering like I did before, and I could finally have clarity to do what I wanted and needed to do. I was so inspired by what I had experienced and that was when I learned I could become a Certified KonMari Consultant and inspire others to change their lives for the better. I finally felt good about where my life was headed and that this was my purpose. My new positive outlook had started to manifest so much more that I never imagined, and I was finally feeling happy to be in my home and in life.
I realized that by learning to let go of material things, opened my mind and life to have more of the things that truly mattered. I started to gain more time, more self- care, positive people, real experiences, and appreciation for what I have and no longer spending money on things I didn’t really need. I gained so much more in life from letting go; it felt like I chose the right path on a “Choose Your Own Adventure” book!
Letting go will give you the freedom to live a life of purpose, positivity and more fulfillment that will exceed your expectations.
